Poor Performance

At Hampton Equine Vets we have extensive experience in sports horse work. Equine athletes may perform poorly for many reasons and as such these cases must be investigated thoroughly. A non-exhaustive list of possible reasons for poor performance is given below:

  • Low grade lameness or orthopaedic pain

  • Neck/back pain

  • Respiratory disease

  • Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome

  • Cardiac issues

  • Muscle disease e.g. recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis

A thorough history will be taken before performing a clinical examination which will usually involve assessing the horse before, during and after exercise. We will discuss our findings and explain which diagnostic steps may be appropriate after this. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss booking a poor performance investigation.
